When Sanaa Brooks from Popcorn and Tequila asked if I was interested in attending The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical on Broadway, I was over the moon. I have been a musical geek for as long as I can remember and my oldest son happens to love the Percy Jackson books. The opportunity seemed perfect for our family!

The Lightning Thief

New York City is only about two and half hours from Voluntown. Every now and again we go to the city but we don’t go as often as we should. After this trip, visiting the city will be happening a bit more. I am always looking for a get away! Check out my travel page to see where I’ve been, and get some great travel tips!

I went straight to Marriott’s website and booked a room at the Residence Inn, as soon as my tickets were confirmed. I absolutely love my Marriott Bonvoy rewards credit card and I use it all the time. If you love to travel and want to start enjoying a rewards/points program, be sure to check out the Marriott Bonvoy Card.

Once we arrived in the city, we made our way to the box office at Longacre Theatre. We grabbed our tickets and walked over to La Rivage for a Prix Fixe dinner before the show. They were great with getting us fed and out the door so we wouldn’t miss our show.

Let me tell you how much I LOVED The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical……. it was funny and strangely relatable. I found myself smiling and giggling throughout the entire show.

THE GOOD

  • The theatre was beautiful, small but beautiful, and very clean.
  • It is a great family show. My youngest who is 9 years old, didn’t really understand the plot of the show, but was still intrigued and engaged in the entire time . My oldest who is 13 years old understood the story-line and was loving every minute.
  • Jorrel Javier who plays Grover Underwood and Mr. D is hysterical stole the show.
  • It didn’t seem that there was a bad seat in the house.
  • Depending on your budget they have some very affordable tickets.
  • The show is 2 hours and 5 minutes including one intermission.

The Bad

  • We bought four drinks, two cocktails and two sodas and we paid $87.00

If you are looking for a family friendly, funny, enjoyable Broadway show experience The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is a must see. Be sure to go soon because the show is only running for 16 weeks and you don’t want to miss out!.
