5 Tips On What To Do When It Rains On Vacation?

First, let me start with saying that it wouldn’t be a Cassidy family vacation without rain. Seriously, it has pretty much rained on EVERY VACATION we have ever had. Planning for rain on vacation is a must!

Basically, I am an expert in this area!

If you know me, you know that I am a planner. It’s not just with vacation, it’s with everything. Above all, I love my schedules and I CANNOT live without lists. I have lists everywhere and pretty much for every aspect of my life.

In addition, when it comes to vacation my lists, schedules, and planning hit over-drive. I want to be prepared for whatever could come our way.

Of course, one thing you can’t control is the weather. I know we all know this at heart, but we plan a great trip, go to a great location, and we arrive and the clouds roll in and the rain start to fall. Suddenly, you find yourself with a pretty cloudy attitude.

Planning for rain on vacation is often forgotten.

Here are my tips for traveling when it rains.

  1. Have a contingency plan. Planning for rain on vacation is very important. When you are in the planing stages of your trip, find activities that you can do that are inside or that would be fun in the rain. Nothing is worse than finding yourself standing in the rain with no plan. Your back up plan doesn’t have to be any less fun than your original. It’s all in what you put into it!
  2. Don’t let the rain stop you. Just because it’s raining doesn’t mean you can’t still have fun, right? Here’s an example, we planned a trip to the Smokey Mountains and it rained…EVERY DAY! I had a hike planned to a waterfall that we couldn’t wait to do, and guess what? It rained, and you know what? We did it anyway……IN THE RAIN! Walk the beach in the rain, dance in the rain….enjoy it!
  3. Keep your spirit sweet. Hey, it is what it is right? If you get down in the dumps about the weather, you are going to add to the disappointment. Don’t be a downer, no one controls the weather and it’s a day that can be full of adventures and memories, so enjoy it.
  4. Pack rain gear. If you decide to be adventurous and still enjoy some outdoor activities be sure you packed an umbrella and some extra clothes so you don’t have to worry about your wet stuff. Also, when heading out from your hotel or where ever you are staying, bring some towels with you and a plastic bag. Trust me they come in handy!
  5. ENJOY EVERY MOMENT. Bottom line is vacation is a time to make memories and spend it with people you love. We aren’t promised tomorrow and if today was your last, you wouldn’t want to be sulking about the weather. Enjoy every single moment, make memories, and just have an adventure of a lifetime!
