Engine Room ~ Mystic, CT

Engine Room ~ Mystic, CT

My husband recently turned 35 and I was looking for just the perfect surprise. He always seems to one up me in the surprise department. Over the past few years he has become a whiskey lover and he had mentioned a few things that he wanted to do for his birthday and of course they all involved whiskey. All of the things he mentioned just didn’t work out, heck just trying to find a free weekend for just the two of us to do something alone seems impossible.

After searching everywhere in our local area for a restaurant with an extensive whiskey list, I finally found the Engine Room in Mystic. I mean Beer, Burgers, and Bourbon? Can one go wrong? I almost couldn’t believe that we had never been there! I looked over their bourbon, rye, and whiskey list and I knew it was the perfect spot for us to visit for Jeff’s birthday.

I emailed the restaurant to see if it was possible for them to help me with some recommendations for Jeff. All I can say is WOW! They were extra helpful and put together a special flight to surprise him when we got there. I thought that that was going to be the end of it, but they took it one step further and Aaron took the time to explain each glass on the flight. I can’t say enough for their customer service!

The atmosphere was awesome! Just make a reservation or be prepared to wait. I can’t wait to go back again!

The food was incredible!

First we started out with a few bar bites. What a great idea…..bar bites! Small snacks if you want just a little something. I don’t know about you but I always want to try everything on the menu so small bites are a great idea!

We had Deviled Farm Eggs, Fried Pickles w House Ranch, and Country Ham and Cheddar Stuffed Cherry Peppers. All three we fabulous and I would order them all again!

Then came the main event………here’s the thing…….here in Connecticut you don’t see Chicken n’ Waffles EVER on a menu. Honestly, I have heard of this combo and have always want to give it a try but never had the opportunity to. I just had to do it. OMG!!!

WHERE HAVE CHICKEN N’WAFFLES BEEN MY WHOLE LIFE????????

I have no words………….

Jeff had the “Steak of The Day” dish and we ordered a side of Baked Mac and Cheese and added bacon! It was plenty to share and it sure was DREAMY! Now please this meal probably exceeded my calorie count for a month but oh my was it DELISH and so worth the splurge!

To end the night we had the Chocolate Peanut Butter Mousse, a perfect end to a perfect surprise birthday date!
