Want to Visit Old Quebec City?

When I was a freshmen in High School I traveled to Old Quebec City for a music trip. So, ever since that trip I have talked about going back, it’s been on my list forever it seems. I couldn’t help but remember the beautiful snow covered streets, the twinkling lights, and the incredible food. Well, I finally went back and I have to tell you I was in awe! It was honestly one of the most beautiful trips I have taken. Let me make it clear to you I usually HATE the cold, but a visit to Old Quebec City made me forget all that, it is breathtaking and romantic, it is truly a winter wonderland. I promise you I will be going back.

Therefore, I wanted to share with you a few of our highlights from our visit to Old Quebec City. After leaving from Voluntown, Connecticut we made the drive in about seven hours and fifteen minutes. Crossing the border wasn’t bad at all, we crossed into Canada on a Friday afternoon around ten in the morning and we were the only car at the border so we didn’t wait at all. Crossing back into the United States we got to the border on a Monday at around three in the afternoon and the same thing, we were the only car at the border! We definitely got lucky on that for sure!

Let’s Talk About The Hotel

We stayed at the Quebec City Marriott Downtown and the service was by far the best I have ever had at a Marriott. We booked the Pride and Joy in Quebec City package which included valet, breakfast buffet for two daily, two mimosas daily, two cocktails at the bar daily, evening turndown service, free wifi, and 2pm checkout.

When we arrived we were greeted by the concierge and I was immediately impressed. Through out our stay they helped with directions, made reservations and when we left they packed our car and they even topped off our windshield wiper fluid and gave us all bottled water for our journey home. The concierge service was top notch, they gave our stay that extra special feel, Kevin, Alex and Pascal deserve an extra shout out for sure!

There was nothing special about the breakfast buffet is was average but it was edible and convenient. It was the only aspect of our stay that I would say could use some improvement.

We would enjoy our day out and about in the city and after dinner we would make our way back to the hotel to enjoy our cocktails that came with our package. Tristian the bartender was great! We looked forward to seeing him each night. When you get great people, who offer great service, it truly makes your stay much more enjoyable.

Food and Drink

We just walked the city explored good food and drinks. Here is a list of some of restaurants/bars we visited through out our visit to Old Quebec City.

  1. Korrigane – Great beer! I loved their stout. It was a walk from the city so maybe an uber would have been a better choice to get there. The nachos and poutine were delish!

2. Portofino – Very cozy atmosphere. Great food the gnocchi and cannelloni were perfection.

3. La Buche – I can’t tell you how fun and unique this place was. I loved the picnic table style tables, the sugar shack feel and OMG the bloody mary!!!! The lunch menu was small but the brunch and dinner menu seemed to have a great variety.

4.1608 Wine & Cheese Bar – Full of class and a great place to enjoy a really well made cocktail.

5.Ceil Bistro Bar– I won’t lie to you I wasn’t really into going to this bar I thought it would be kind of a tourist trap but I was wrong. It’s not your average bar you sit at a table like you would in a restaurant but the views are absolutely worth the stop.

6. Q de Sac Resto Pub – The brick oven adds the perfect touch of cozy to this restaurant. The food was great and the warm cozy atmosphere was just right. My burger was incredible. The brie cheese dish we got was also delicious!

Attractions

Here are a few fun attractions that filled our days with fun and excitement!

  1. Toboggan Silde at 1884 – For only $3 a ride you can’t beat it!

3. Winter Playground at Valcartier-35 yes that is right 35 sliding hills! A must do if you like to play in the snow!

4. Hotel de Glace – There are no words to how awesome and incredible the Ice hotel is. It is definitely something I have never experienced!
